2009 Build Organization/Contacts

The 2009 Build will be managed by several Committees that are accountable to the Board of Directors. All committees are composed of both members of the Columbia County Habitat Board of Directors as well as other volunteers.

Construction. Construction is managed by a Construction Committee, chaired by Joseph Rapp, that is responsible for upfront planning of the build. Project Management will be provided by Joseph Rapp Construction Management. The Project Management team will handle all site preparation activities prior to the volunteer start date, including leveling the land, installing utilities and pouring the slab. The team will also manage all sub-contracting work on an ongoing basis throughout the project. Finally, the team will recruit and oversee a site manager for each build day who is an expert in that day’s specific build tasks, e.g., framing, sheet rocking, roofing, siding, etc.

Volunteers. A Volunteer Committee is responsible for recruiting and scheduling all volunteers, including crew leaders. Heading the Committee is Rosemary Carroll, who is also President of the Board of Directors. Working with a volunteer needs list generated from Rapp Management, the Volunteer Committee will be contacting and signing up volunteers from prior builds as well as reaching out to new volunteers that register on the website and/or call in to register. And Register Early! In order to use people' talents most effectively we will limit number of volunteers any given day. Click on Volunteer Now in the left hand menu to register now.

Amenities. On site amenities for build volunteers, including coffee, water, snacks and lunches, is being organized by the Amenities Committee, also chaired by Rosemary Carroll. In the past, we have received tremendous support from local stores, restaurants, churches and community groups who have supplied food, drink and disposable serving supplies. If you would like to contribute to this year’s effort, please contact us.

Fundraising. The Development and Public Relations Committee is busy year-round, generating funds through grants, fund-raising events and solicitations to organizations and individuals. The Committee is chaired by Joyce LaPenn. Several fund-raisers are in the planning stages and will be announced on the website. We encourage our supporters to bring forward additional ideas to help raise money. All ideas are welcomed, from house parties to student car washes to…your idea!
